Kiwanis meeting of January 18th

Our Lt. Gov.,Sarah Kew was our special guest today. This was her official visit to our club as she makes her way to all the clubs in the 5th Division
The agenda for the day included the following items :
Jim Jacobs had pictures from years gone by of past members of our Kiwanis club that he shared with the club to look at
The Social Committee is planning a night at the Toledo Walleye game on March 15th.More detaiks to follow
March 1st will be the Special Olympics Bowling event at Nortel Lanes. Our meeting will also take place there that day
There are still 3 openings for the Cookie Class. Contact President David or President Elect Troy to sign up
Our Circl K group will be hosting a Love Pit Night at the MCCC.The event will be a fundraiser to beat Cancer
Our next Board meeting is on February 7th at noon
The bowling team took 2 points this week
Celebrate Children will be on April 29th.Volunteers will be needed as well as more books.More details will be coming
Floriene Mentel was our guest speaker today. The topic of her presentation was the Learning Bank.They provide year-round programming for adult education in Monroe so its dat-time students can achieve their GED or High School Diploma.A major reason for the Learning Bank’s ongoing success is its Community partners. Monroe Bank and Trust and MCCC offer monetary and mentoring as well as career counseling. Others who also play a part in the success of the program include Michigan Works/Michigan Rehabilitation Services,Youth Opportunity Program,The Community Foundation of Monroe County,the IHM Sisters,ALCC,Oaks if Righteousness Church,Retired Senior Volunteer Program,Monroe County Opportunity Program and the United Way of Monroe County.
